ditto places like Costa Rica and Belize.With the drug trafficking going on in Central America, I would be concerned about the long-term stability of any country along those trade routes. Any of them could become Mexico quickly.

Worth considering, but both Costa Rica and Belize have been pretty adept about enforcing their immigration laws. Hats off to Belize in particular as the landside of the country is surrounded by two of the major sources of drugs and illegal immigration to the USA.
They are obviously doing something right!
