Scott Adams was one of the very first to predict that Trump would win.
Besides being a cartoonist, Adams is student of persuasion techniques and of hypnosis. Once he started paying attention to Trump he said that he considered Trump to be perhaps the greatest persuader that he had ever seen- and Adams went on to describe what Trump does and how he does it.
A lot of Trump’s “mistakes” are anything but mistakes- they are “errors” done intentionally to get you to focus your attention on something that you would otherwise ignore. His use of persuasion is something Adams spotted very quickly, but which the MSM still doesn’t get. And so Trump continues to troll them mercilessly.
So saying Putin’s government wasn’t involved in meddling in the 2018 election and then saying he mispoke was intentional? Perhaps...
