The only time I bring the laptop in is to show the patient a comparison from previous visits, e.g., labs, weight, blood pressure. Otherwise, it's on my desk and I dictate after.

I once went to a doctor--I had to see a specialist--and he just looked at his computer screen the entire time. I swore I would never do that with a patient--and I never saw him again.

Easy to cure that if you are the patient:

“Hey, doc, do you always have spiders that big in here?”

Bet he looks up from the computer... :-)
