I’ve read Camille Paglia from time to time over a number of years. There is a great deal she says and believes I don’t agree with, but I have a lot of respect for her.
Paglia is a thinker. She’s a “grown-up,” having both lived recent history and studied history. She does not blindly adhere to the current feminist orthodoxy, and in fact opposes it.
I have never considered myself a feminist, but I’ve known a lot of women over the years who did claim that title, and a lot of them thought along the same lines as Paglia. I’m thinking of a couple of college professors in particular who were feminists but who didn’t hate men, didn’t treat students differently based on gender, and didn’t limit their subjects with a feminist bias.
I know one woman now who is appalled that the “equality” she marched for as a young woman has been turned into man-hating and male-bashing; she’s seen it turned against her own son. (He “rose above” the blatant feminist bias in his graduate school department and obtained the degree he was seeking in spite of his anti-male faculty).
I’d love to see more liberals watch and read Camille Paglia. She might not turn them into conservatives but she might actually open a few minds to start to think for themselves.
