Rob Reiner’s Shock and Awe Earns a Measly $41,000 on Opening Weekend

Director Rob Reiner‘s new movie Shock and Awe is a movie about journalists.

According to the movie’s description on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is “based on the true events of Knight Ridder journalists who were the only ones who ‘got it right’ in the lead-up to the 2003 Iraq War when they questioned the true nature of the Bush White House’s justification for the conflict.”

Yet, you would be forgiven for not knowing that because this weekend practically no one bought tickets to see the film, which opened in limited release on July 13th.

According to Box Office Mojo, for the weekend of July 13-15th, Shock and Awe grossed a measly $41,000.

The left was shrill about the Iraq War but went silent once Obama became President. Obama/Clinton/McCain p*ssed gasoline over the Mideast trying to overthrow every country succeeding in destroying Libya/killing Qaddafi and very close to overthrowing Syria. Iraq practically had to refight the Iraq War retaking once American held cities. He is the father of ISIS and lover of the Muslim brotherhood. His COLLUSION was involved in Egypt and Israel elections. The military Shock and Awe was actually a masterpiece of warfare its just that the holding military/political control after that was a failure for many complex reasons.

Do they have a “Meathead” category in the Academy Awards? ... if so, looks like he is a shoo in.

The two professions that spend more time patting themselves on the back than any others—journalists and movie actors.

Looks like Rob Reiner's having a little Spinal Tap career dip.

Marty: The last time Tap toured America, they where, uh, booked into 10,000 seat arenas, and 15,000 seat venues, and it seems that now, on their current tour they're being booked into 1,200 seat arenas, 1,500 seat arenas, and uh I was just wondering, does this mean uh...the popularity of the group is waning?

Ian: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no...no, no, not at all. I, I, I just think that the.. uh.. their appeal is becoming more selective.

It made the Marines look like they were retarded.

Yah,I guess you could say that. But although I was Army rather than USMC I can easily imagine Colonel Jessup being a real Marine Colonel.

Tom,get the President on the phone..we're surrendering our position in Cuba". "Yes,Sir" says the Private/Corporal.

A great line,I'd say.

Spinal Tap is great.

Speaking of rock ‘n’ roll movies, I’m appreciating “Hard Day’s Night” more and more. The dialogue with Paul’s grandfather is really witty and funny (it went over my head the first time!).

Last I went to the dollar theatre (second-run movies) it was $3. The artsy theatre (first run, lightly marketed “artsy” movies) runs about $6. I would guess no more than 7000 paying customers.

A Few Good Men, The Princess Bride, Misery, This Is Spinal Tap are true modern classics.

I just try to ignore that they were made by a man who chose on his own to become what Archie Bunker made him out to be.

“Hey, honey! You wanna see a movie about journalists?”

Journalists will.

Most journalists these days except the top 0.1% will be watching it later this year on basic cable, using the 19” TV they got when leaving mom and dads.

He had a good run for about ten years in the 80s: Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, the Princess Bride, Misery, A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally, etc. But he hasn’t made a decent film in at least 25 years.

It has some great lines, but the Marines were portrayed like idiots in general.

A Marine General would not consider himself above the law.

I can't stand it when people think they speak for ‘all good Americans’. It means that they are dismissing the views and concerns of everyone they don't agree with. Reiner is that guy.

“It has some great lines, but the Marines were portrayed like idiots in general.”

I don’t know if they portrayed them as ‘idiots in general’, but the movie did try to lecture. The best thing about that movie, in my opinion, was an attractive Demi Moore when she was younger and still looked like she had some softness about her. That was 1991-92. By the time she appeared on Cigar Aficionado in late 1996 she looked different, and harder. Just my opinion, but I think it’s a waste, and standard for Hollywood.

So... what do they claim was the real reason for the Iraq war?

My guess: the second Gulf War was because Saddam made a serious attempt to assassinate W's daddy after the first Gulf War. Unlike the Democrat's Vietnam war, the Republicans resoundingly won both Gulf wars, and that's what makes leftists so mad. Saddam needed killing but it left a huge power vacuum that let Iran get out of control. In hindsight Trump was right.
