‘Second Hand Lions’

That is one of my favorites too.

My brother was sent to Fort Gordon for Signal Corps training after doing basic at Fort Dix, New Jersey. This was in 1963. After this, he completed his service at Fort Wainwright, AK.

Duvall’s role in John Wayne’s “True Grit” is one of my favorites too.

He was a college graduate and only rose to the rank of PFC. And was only in for 2 years. WTF?

All that plus a flag officer's son. There has to be a deeper story there. Any commanding officer in 1955 would push a Private with a college degree toward OCS, especially with a ranking officer for a father.

That jumped out at me also. His father was an Admiral and he enlisted in the Army? Perhaps he wanted the shortest enlistment he could get?

Acting is not a very fast moving MOS in the Army.

“I have liked him in all his roles. 2nd hand lions was funny as hell.”

There is a lot of depth there also. Nineteen years ago I took on a stepson who had had a worthless father. The movie was a favorite of ours, especially “The Speach”. We identified with the characters, he even called me “Hub” sometimes, usually as an inside joke around others. I lost him in an accident and haven’t been able to watch it since.

I’m so sorry. I’m sure you made the years he did have very special.

Yeah, that’s probably one of my most favorite lines from ANY movie. I only mentioned “Charlie don’t surf” because another poster had already used it in his comment.

I’ll betcha both lines are probably the most famous lines ever spoken on film.
