Lol! That pretty well sums it up but Im a sucker for all those period British productions.
I think it’s the best series I’ve ever watched.
Almost every scene is “eye candy” whether it’s the costumes or the houses.
I watch the reruns time and time again.
The character of “Granny” is the jewel in the crown, IMHO.
She has a way with words.
Her line “What’s a weekend?” will be remember by fan to their graves.
The British know how to make good historical telly.
Poldark is another great show.
I did not at all expect to like Downton Abbey, but I did!!! Its so well done and I cared about the characters.
My husband really liked Downton Abbey also. This is totally out of character for him, he hates British costume dramas.
(.....hmmmmmmmm, do you think my husband is going gay on me !?!)
Nope, I liked it to. I enjoyed the history and the cars. Liked the first couple of seasons best, but I stayed through the whole series.
Me too and love Endeavor. If you havent watched Inspector Morse or Inspector Lewis, do so. Theyre on Amazon Prime I think.
Seen most of Morse when I was in the videotape section of a PBS outfit and Lewis on Masterpiece.
Both good.
So Daisy gets married, Charlie and Elsie have a miracle baby, Shrimpie hooks up with 20 year old twins, Thomas gets a lover, and Edith has Mary locked up in the Tower of London.
I’ve only seen a few episodes of the first series.
What decade are they up to now?
The thing about British soap operas set in bygone days is that even though they are every bit as trashy and unrealistic as Jersey Shore or Real Housewives, they still manage to cover themselves in an aura of respectability. Must be the British accents.
I like both Endeavor and Gentley. In fact I prefer most British shows to the garbage on American TV.
“Cant wait for this to come out...except for Mary the Insipid...”
Michelle Dockery’s Character on the “Godless” mini series is much more enjoyable. She really pulled off her Wild West Horse Ranch Owner roll.. She did a good job handling a Repeating Rifle as well.
I watched the first season and that was enough. It long, tedious and boring. I have watched other British series that I really enjoyed. There was one about 40 years ago called “The Pallisers” with Suzanne Hampshire and it as great. Each to their own.
I hope more Dirk Gently is made.
I’ll give it a try - thanks!
I was impressed with the series very early on.
We actually felt sorry for the gay assistant butler, especially when he tried to kill himself. We were glad that he took Carson’s place and became THE butler.
“(.....hmmmmmmmm, do you think my husband is going gay on me !?!)”
I’m sure he’s fine - but just be on the lookout for a sudden changes in his color palette. You know, if he starts favoring chartreuse, teal, magenta, etc as his favorite colors and somehow wants to incorporate any of those into a makeover of your home.
Also, be wary if he wants to buy a poodle or any of those toy breeds of dogs.
Finally. A movie I’ll go to see. Along with Ridley Scott’s forthcoming “The Battle of Btitsin.”
....or Britain.
