I understand it was used in olden times to preserve corpses.
I think the Egyptians used it.
My grandparents had their own bee hives and used the honey from those hives as well as selling it.
They never refrigerated it, and it never spoiled on the table/counter tops in honey bowls.
They used the honey as a topical antibacterials for minor cuts and abrasions.
They mixed it with saltwater and gargled for sore throats and made hot toddies with whiskey for the severe sore throats.
My grandmother was an excellent baker and used honey for her sweet baked goods in WWII with the sugar rationing.
