Studies show that serial killers often tortured animals as a child! (And other studies have shown that young teens are idiots!)

I rented a cottage on a farm after college. I was looking at the new kitten, and the young daughter asked her dad something like “So she only had one kitten?”

“Yes - honey - just the one.”

I gave an odd glance to the dad. After the girl left I said “Just one kitten?”

“Well - that’s all she needs to know. Every year the cats’ have one baby, maybe two if a friend wants one. The rest get put in a gunny sack and dumped into the pond.”

My shocked expression caused him to add “We already have a ton of cats around. We aren’t in the city - that’s how we do things.”

I wouldn’t call it torture - but perhaps not the most humane way to kill them. But farmers do have another outlook on things. I was helping a relative out on a ranch and the dog was only using three legs - but could still work those cows.

I asked about his hurt leg.

“Yeah - it got broke.”

“Oh - the vet couldn’t fix it?”

“The vet!? Who’s got time for that? It healed on it’s own.” (Or something very plain and crass like that)

I was pretty surprised, seeing as how well that dog handled the cattle. I would have thought he would have taken better care of such a great “asset”.

Thanks for your reply.

I didn’t watch the video but making the cats swim doesn’t strike me as too bad.

Not sure having them work in a animal shelter is a good idea.

When I was teenager, the vet gave our old dog who was very sick a shot to put him asleep. The dog was whimpering as he died. It would have been far more humane to have just shot him.

A lot of people (not all certainly) get cranked up about cats or dogs but never think once of visiting someone in a nursing home.

My neighbor's dad used to trap feral cats in a cage and chuck the cage into a large trashcan full of water. Later in the day, he'd hoist up the cage and toss the dead cat into the dumpster. And no, he wasn't a serial killer.

Feral cats are a nuisance. There's a lot where I live. Military service members get house cats and then ditch them when they leave for deployment or have to relocate. Damn things are everywhere.
