The NFL Players Association announced it has filed a grievance challenging the league's new national anthem policy.
In May, NFL owners unanimously approved a new anthem policy that requires players to stand if they are on the field during the performance of the Star-Spangled Banner. The new policy gives players the option to remain in the locker room, if they want. The NFL subjects the teams to a fine, if a player or a member of team personnel does not show respect for the anthem.
Players have been kneeling, sitting and raising fists during the national anthem in an effort to raise awareness for racial and social injustice in America since Colin Kaepernick took a knee before a preseason game in 2016.
"Our union filed its non-injury grievance today on behalf of all players challenging the NFLs recently imposed anthem policy. The unions claim is that this new policy, imposed by the NFLs governing body without consultation with the NFLPA, is inconsistent with the collective bargaining agreement and infringes on player rights.
In advance of our filing today, we proposed to the NFL to begin confidential discussions with the NFLPA Executive Committee to find a solution to this issue instead of immediately proceeding with litigation. The NFL has agreed to proceed with those discussions and we look forward to starting them soon."

Why do the players want to kill the league? What’s their motivation?
Another idiotic move by ill-informed overpaid jocks taking political stands while at work . I wonder what would happen to we the unwashed if we attempted something of this nature during WORK hours ?
They’re stupid and can’t see the big picture. They’re living in their own little bubble.
I’d bet that college players who want to get into the NFL are aware of how stupid they are.
NFL is getting what it deserves for letting the inmates run the asylum.
For the longest time, I felt that a main drive of the protests was just a union bargaining chip. Who disagrees?
I have thought that for the last couple of seasons, some guys who joined the draft early did so out of well founded fears that the big NFL money won’t be as much as it has been in previous seasons. I think a few would have stayed at their schools for one mere season if this protest BS didn’t happen.
I dont know how the NFL can object, especially after their spokesmen have gone on the record, time and again, to say that the recent drop in viewership is due to over saturation, fan fatigue, the 2016 election, uncompetitive matches, and a dozen other factors, but not at all related to the kneeling issue. They must have said this a thousand times.
Knee Jerks rule the asylum.
I don't know, but I'm rooting for them on this one. We've cut the cable and don't live close enough to any stations to easily pick up tv. I'm on their side 100%.
Reviving the issue just a month before pre-season games begin. Great timing.
You write: Id bet that college players who want to get into the NFL are aware of how stupid they are.
Wrong: If you think football players go to college to get an education, you should be disabused of that sentiment.
Conditions of employment.
Don’t like it?
Go work someplace else.
Well, the last two years were not enough for the players so they have to stir the pot some more.
They will get burned worse now. The league will lose more sponsors and viewers hurting the leagues ability to pay their outrageous salaries.
Glad I have already quit watching.

You are wrong saying I was wrong. You need to read what I said again. I say exactly what you say....that college players want a stable NFL so they can play. College players don’t want the NFL players to jeopardize their potential NFL careers.
I understand the connection between college players and the NFL.
Good thinking. I agree.
Who cares I recommend that everyone forget the NFL and go global support soccer. Then you can be as idiot like the Brits.
