Organizer just texted me the GoFundMe campaign was suspended for unknown reasons. Organizer is now having to explain things about nature of relationship with beneficiary in order to reactivate the campaign.
The organizer is a lawyer working at a top-rated law firm. Doesn’t sound too happy as GoFundMe doesn’t require such info and doesn’t demand it as part of the process of establishing a campaign.
Organizer said GoFundMe approved the campaign and took it live only to suspend it hours later. Big waste of time. If they are worried about risk of organizers absconding with funds, they should have had that issue addressed long ago. For example, they could require a sponsored depository holding account until an organizer established an adequately rated track record or passed a credit check, etc.
