Perhaps 20 years ago now, a female colleague who taught English and logic, having despaired of ever finding a match who matched her credentials, married a local locksmith with a successful small business, something a la Marty. Unlike the implication in the movie, their marriage lasted perhaps five years until they civilly divorced, but since both were Catholics they are unable to move on other than as celibates. How much the intellectual divide caused this, I cannot say, but I think it is reasonable to assume that it had some effect.

If we want intellectual companionship, we just hang out with our guy friends.
