I agree with one of our fellow FReepers that hideous amounts of student loan debt are also a major factor here. Most women who graduate college can’t afford to take any time out for a family because they’ve got massive amounts of debt to retire.
And you don’t need to “marry down” because a man doesn’t have a degree. A degree is not indicative of a man’s intelligence or his capability as a provider. Quite the contrary, really.
A man with a Ph.D. will have a mountain of debt to pay off but a man with a good trade, like a plumber, electrician, or a contractor will be earning as much as $450,000 a year in some places and he’s not paying off student loans!
When my daughters come of age and start looking for a husband you can believe me when I say that anyone with massive debts is NOT going to be welcome around here!
