WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A white man who challenged a black family's use of a private community's pool has not only resigned from the homeowner's association board — he's also lost his job.

Sonoco announced Friday that Adam Bloom is no longer employed by the packaging and industrial products company, saying it doesn't condone discrimination of any kind, even if it happens outside its workplace.

You seem rather gleeful that the man has lost his regular job.

I wasn’t even gleeful a few years back when the leftist customer at the CFA drive through lost his job after confronting an employee. And what he did was deliberate and belligerent.

This guy at the pool was just doing what he was supposed to do after another community member alerted him. I don’t think the punishment fits the “crime”.

Do you believe an employer has the right to hire and fire people at will?

Doesn’t say it at the bank teller cage either.

Obviously only homeowners are allowed to use the pool. There’s no reason to ask otherwise nor for another homeowner to bring it up.

You’ve already lost this debate - I suggest you stop trying to dig yourself deeper.

“Obviously only homeowners are allowed to use the pool.”

Spot on.

She is a homeowner or resident.

She is allowed to use the pool.

And being that he is no longer HOA Pool Chairman, it is apparent that calling the police on HOA members was not an appropriate action.

Sure.

Now how do you verify she’s a resident when you’re the pool attendant?

Really - pick an argument because you’re going in circles now.

“There are rules that homeowners can only use the pool”
“The video shows there are no rules for who can use the pool.”

The members have key cards

She has a key card.

The sigh does not say that members must show their ID

The HOA terminated Bloom’s command as Pool Chairman.

Had he acted in accordance of HOA rules, he would still hold the office of Pool Chairman.

I see Adam suing and wining big in this case. I just read his lawyer statement. I see a big civil cases around defamation of character against the big twitter names/accounts, Jasmine Edwards, and Adam’s employer. He can prove defamation, they cannot prove racial profiling from the video.

This reminds me of the movie “The Circle”. Only a matter of time before people start research / asking who is Jasmine Edwards.

Exactly. That poster’s joy is rather apparent.
Rosa Parks herself, a far more pivotal historic person, did not seek to punish the bus driver.

Not gleeful.

I simply took the the stand that his employer had the right to fire him.

The HOA had a right to ask for his resignation.

What I believe an employer has the right to do and what I do a jig over are two different things.

She made it a black / white issue, that is a political issue.

It became a political issue when social media got involve to get Adam fired from job because of a perception of racial profiling.

They went out in actively campaign via Facebook, twitter and other social media avenues to get Adam fired.

If you see a person with a camera in your face trying to make you out to be racist walk away. Do not speak, just walk away and call a lawyer.

I like how you keep ignoring the fact that key cards are not IDs and non-transferrable.

The facts are it was turned into a fake racial incident and both the HOA and the employer were gutless and didn’t want the strife.

All the woman had to do was give ID or her address and she did neither, started making a fuss and calling racism which is why he called the cops.

Will you support her employers right to fire her when she loses her lawsuit?

Being part owner of the pool doesn’t excuse not having ID or a badge to use said pool. I have a second home with an inground pool, and there is a monitor that sits every day in the baking sun to ensure only people staying at the complex are allowed - owners as well as renters.

Sounds like this dude isn’t very bright, but there was no need for the woman to escalate it by posting her “profiling” claim on Facebook. At our pool, everyone is asked, irrespective of race. It’s a posted regulation to bring your ID to the pool

Bingo. If she lived in the complex, all she had to do was display the badge. Now, if after doing so she was then evicted, then this guy deserves what he gets.

Not in this case however.

Excellent and practical advice in these times. Good post.

I’ll assume that it was proven that the Guy is a Racist.

He must have showed the Lady his Klan Card when she showed him her Pool Key Card.

Otherwise, he is being slandered.

No need to transfer the card when she is a member of the HOA.

My community pool went from being almost empty most of the time to comfortably full one summer to being crowded all the time the next. It seems that residents were frequently inviting friends who lived outside the community the summer the poole became well used. The crowded summer these same non-resident friends were coming by themselves, not even accompanying their resident friends. The next summer, each resident got a numbered card and had to sign in each time. Guess what, right back to the pool almost never being crowded.

The pool in the video should enforce its own rules. So many of life’s problems would be avoided by simple enforcement of the rules, changing them when they are not working ... as at our border.
