A growing number of Americans now broadly support equal rights for gay, lesbian and transgender people. Its tempting to view this as inevitable, but less than a decade ago many Democrats, including Barack Obama, didnt even publicly support same-sex marriage. The speed at which L.G.B.T. rights became a mainstream issue, including for many religious denominations, represents nothing less than a dizzying cultural transformation.
What does this revolution mean for the Catholic Church, an ancient institution that thinks in centuries, and holds a view of human sexuality at odds with the shifting cultural winds?

“Unfortunately a man named Bergoglio may be about to change all that.”
He doesn’t have the power to
“Actually homosexuality has never been a sin for the Catholic Clergy or anyone else...”
I dont want to begin a discussion with you.
Just saying this falls under adultery. God called it.
Oh, and those who think perverted people who were admitted into the priesthood would not be perverted if they were married are just silly
No all caps please.
Those people already have equal rights. Marriage is not a right, it is a religious rite. People have freedom of religion, but not the right to dictate rites to a religion.
When will we resume actual education of children so that people can think coherently and cogently?
I did not read the article as being about marriage, but about acceptance of homosexuals.
.
What “rights” are we talking about?
What “rights” are we talking about?
Any “chuch” that embraces faggotry is spiritually dead.
Let me recommend what FReeper who_would_fardels_bear said about situations like this on another thread:

Bottom line, the Church on Earth is the Church Militant. We've got to get out there and fight for the truth.
Pretty sure God said “I am”. That means He is a well established entity... He doesn’t need to evolve. Any changes by the church are alterations devoid of God’s approval.
Hey, they “evolved” on evolution . . . and historical criticism.
I’m Catholic. We don’t “paradigm shift.”
Yes you did (see above).
The "right" to force Christians to do their degenerate bidding.
“Evolution” etc. never made it into doctrine. You can criticize Evolution right down to the molecular level (cf Michael Behe) and still be on absolutely solid ground as a Catholic in good standing.
So if the Catholic Church has "never" accepted total Biblical inerrancy, how do you explain the Church's reaction to Galileo's promotion of Copernicanism? The whole argument was that it was contrary to Biblical inerrancy.
You so-called "conservative" Catholics who believe the "old testament" is a collection of oriental myths, fairy tales, and fables are a piece of work. You have no trouble interpreting the events of the "new testament" literally, but suddenly when it comes to Genesis 1-11 you balk and become too "sophisticated" to believe such things.
The only reason for the otherwise miracle-drunk Catholic Church to single out Genesis 1-11 for rejection is that it hates American rural people.
You Catholic haters are a lot of fun.
The phrase “equal rights” in this context means the “right” to be married by a Christian church. Christian churches do not reject homosexuals at their services, they do not refuse to baptize homosexuals, they just do not recognize “man and man” as a marriage. That is the only “right” denied homosexuals is the rite of marriage by a religion that bases marriage on the one man/one woman paradigm.
But marriage is not a right. A right is something you inherently have and does not require positive action from someone else. Does that make sense?
Also, I am concerned with the term “acceptance”. Exactly how do you define that? Free people cannot be compelled to like or accept anyone, there is no such right. If you want to be accepted by another person or group, it is your responsibility to make yourself acceptable to them. You are not entitled to someone else’s approbation just because you want it.
Only...That's just plain silly.
(1) I very much doubt that Catholic Scripture scholars had any contact whatsoever with American rural people, let alone feel driven with a burning need to "dis" them by focusing on the analogic, moral and spiritual senses of Genesis.
(2) The Catholic Church does not reject the first eleven chapters, but insists on the deep truths of Genesis. Examples: It's not about literal apples, it's about literal apostasy. It's not about literal snakes, it's about literal Satan.
(3) I don't know whether you have much contact with American rural people, but I do (my in-laws at Calvary Baptist Church in Cocke County, TN, and Philadelphia Baptist Church in Pauline, SC) and from what I understand, they see the significance Genesis in terms of Satan and apostasy, not snakes and apples.
Matthew 13:35
I will open my mouth to speak in parables; I will proclaim what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.
