A couple of years back most successful YouTubers were making decent incomes from ad revenue. Then the Wall Street Journal went ballistic over an innocent joke gone bad by YouTube's biggest channel (Pewdiepie) and the ad revenue shriveled up.
YouTube is no longer a moneymaking proposition for most tubers, even those with large subscriber bases and lots of views. See: Demonetization.
So YouTubers are forced to flog their PayPal accounts, Patreon accounts, and GoFundMe campaigns. Also, more YouTubers are including ads within their content rather than hoping YouTube will supply the ads.
It's the only rational response to the irrational behavior of supposedly intelligent CEOs and SJW-central at Google/YouTube.
Or the Youtubers could go get a regular job.
