The National Zoo is slowly going secure.
The Smithsonian Institution has a proposal before the National Capital Planning Commission for supplemental perimeter fencing, to close gaps in existing fencing and reduce the number of pedestrian entrances from 13 to three at Connecticut Avenue, the bus lot drop-off, and the Lower Zoo. A fourth entrance will be added later at the soon-to-be-constructed $50 million main zoo parking garage.

Islam.
Yep thanks to Muslim terror, we see security checkpoints at Disneyland, at ball games, for example. It’s so annoying, you can set off a metal detector, because you have loose change.
We can thank bin Laden and his boys for much of this.
We can also thank the Democrats, Leftists, and Media-Industrial concept for not allowing us to name the enemy and deal with it as we should.
Every man and woman and child on the steet knows who the enemy is. But no one is allowed to say it.
How smart is it to announce to the world that it isn’t totally secure yet?
“Hey, kids! Let’s go to the zoo and we’ll all get treated to a cavity search!”
I had a great uncle who worked in DC out of university in the 1930’s and 40’s. Federal Maritime Commission and Dept. of Navy
Up until WWII, he said you could regularly see the VP and cabinet secretaries out at lunch at local taverns.
Last NFL game I attended in 2017, the stadium was like an armed camp. Local sheriff Dept. brought out their used Iraq MRAPS and had the place ringed with local cops dressed up like Seal Team 6. I'll never get used to it.
“If we change the way we live EVEN A LITTLE, the terrorists win..!”
Remember when they’d admonish that..?
Yet EVERYTHING has changed.
Best is the Japanese way:
Keep the terrorists OUT.
Its simple.
I agree mostly with this sentiment but I also believe the left and big government was always waiting for that epic disaster/crisis to grow in power and depth.
HOW busy is the zoo in a city with mass transit that it needs to build a new $50 MILLION parking garage???
Kickbacks
I remember a story where someone broke into this zoo and stole a gaboon viper then proceeded to get on a bus with it.
This was well before terrorism. Zoos have to deal with PETA nuts, idiots like the one above, and “hold my beer” people all the time. Not to mention wily teenagers who um, er, thought it was fun to scale the fences and wake up all the loud birds at night at another zoo.
$40,000,000 is for a solar power system to provide lighting in the garage for a zoo that closes before dark.
(I just made that up...I think)
All this money and stress because we keep letting in muslims. There’s a cheaper and safer solution.
Maybe they looked around Venezuela and considered that, the next time Democrats hold power, people will start trying to eat their animals.
