True. And that is the case - and the problem - with these dogs. The situation is appalling and steadily worsening.

Thank you for the link. I don’t have much time right now and will write the following comment in haste. Apologies in advance for any typos or lack of tactfulness with rhetoric.
I will avoid taking any time to argue with anyone like most of those giving advice through the Internet on defenses against dangerous dogs. For example, how many of those all-knowing neighborhood guys with much babbling Internet education been trained to shut down dog sentries before completing military missions?
How many of them have stopped trained attack animals or large predators like determined bears from attacking (also relevant, hang in there)? Are they veterinarians with terminal ballistics experience or experience in training for defense with knives or other objects?
Let’s dispense with a few myths for now before offering the tentative first step for study.
Pepper spray has worked successfully and often when sprayed directly in the face of dangerous dogs including pit bulls, when the dogs are only trying to attack and haven’t already attached themselves to a victim. But remember that pepper spray has failed many times to detach pit bulls that were already attached to victims. It’s worth a brief try, though, if that’s all that you have. Just don’t keep trying it, if it has failed.
When a pit bull or related dangerous dog is biting a victim, one should not help the dangerous animal to cause further damage to the victim with fire extinguisher squirting, pepper spray (after the dog is biting) or trying to get “bite sticks” between the dog’s inner mouth and the victim.
Such play will only cause a pit bull to bite, shake and pull on the victim longer and more intensely. Watch a few YouTube videos of attacks in progress, and you’ll see how that works. Besides, there’s no time to waste while trying to save the life of a human being from a mauling by a dangerous animal.
People who want to learn how to be more likely to stop a pit bull attack should first assess as to whether or not they are mentally capable of getting a pit bull unattached from a victim being mauled.
Did I say “more likely?” Yes. Remember that no prize fighter will win every bout while fighting bouts for the rest of his or her life. No firearms range competitor will hit the mark every time for the rest of his or her life. But we can improve the likelihood of success when encountering an attempt to attack or an attack.
Back to the flow of this instruction. Could you slaughter an animal to prepare it for butchering? It’s a natural task that moral, kind, loving, healthy human beings have done for thousand of years with no need at all for psychotherapy. Many farmers do it for their families to this day.
*But anyone who feels that they might be adversely mentally affected by slaughtering an animal, for example, should probably avoid reading further.*
Are surgeons mentally ill on average? ...medical examiners, morticians, nurses, police, soldiers, firemen, meat processors by occupation, medics, farmers processing their own meat,...? The answer no.
Only a rare few of them relative to the total number of their peers have “PTSD” from mental causes alone (causes other than their sometimes fleshy work). Physical brain damage, by the way, is another matter. Anyone can be affected by physical trauma.
Alright. If you feel that you are mentally solid enough and are not attracted to morbid fantasies involving violence or gore (sadism, etc.), here’s the first part of the advice.
Study pit bull anatomy first. Then learn more about the animal’s nervous system and about its cardiovascular system. What are the parts of each system? How do the nervous system and cardiovascular system work together to energize a dog? How can we effectively stop either or both systems from further operating, partially or completely?
There’s much more, but the study of anatomy and physical interactions in dogs’ bodies needs to be done somewhat thoroughly. Find your own sources and documents to study. They’re easy to find, and I’m a little pressed for time. Might send links later on.
I remember someone asking about defense with a knife. It’s doable. Well, making one’s odds of success much better is doable.
I’ll try to get around to that. There’s probably quite a bit more to it than most people would realize. For one thing, how accurate are you with stabbing something? I mean, how really accurate with the arm nearly completely extended? Most of us are less accurate than we assume. And there’s anatomy.
Is that interesting? Anyway, training aids are good, as long as they are relatively safe to use and are used safely. One can also use a mock knife with a similar handle and weight. Much force for training is not necessary. As a matter of fact, it can be detrimental in a way (re. spatial-visual coordination, distance finding).
So a piece of wood with a mark on it can suffice if used carefully (always avoiding speed, which will come naturally when needed in a situation, trust me). A ball on a string will work most excellently for someone who is very careful not to stab his or her self (mock, blunt knife being best for this!). Remember, slow motion!
For speedier training later on, use a suspended ring instead (ring, like a doughnut dangling from a string, only thin, lightweight plastic or something). Or use something made from soft foam. A short stick will do in lieu of a knife and will work best. Anything that’s very lightweight will work.
To step up, suspend a short piece of old garden hose (or something like that—say a couple of feet of length) from a length of small chain or nylon rope for a tree limb, exposed ceiling joist or something like that. The piece of hose, when poked, should swing back and forth nicely. Now, try to hit it while it’s moving. Understand?
If so, you can find and develop your own training aids. Be safe, though. Always be careful, and never use a sharp object with rapid movements. Some of the greatest swordsmen on our planet have exclusively used slow forms for practice.
And we should never make a stabbing motion toward any part of our own body. Always away, with simple, straight, extended lunges. And don’t completely extend the arm. Avoid hyper-extending the elbow. The elbow should be a tiny bit bent, still, at the end of each lunge.
And of course, never practice with a person or pet as a target, not even with no intention of contact.
:-)
Ah...very important. A sharp knife should never be used with a moving target. A blunt object like a dowel is best for that. Sharp knives can be deflected, flip and twist back at the practitioner. And wear glasses.
I’m not being overly cautious. This is a lifelong activity. So the odds of accidental injury over such a length of time can be high.
If you’re referring to the Biblical warning against calling another person a fool, it seems to me this is not the same thing as calling an idea foolish.
For your sake, to avoid misunderstanding, I’m taking your advice about raca very seriously. If my Biblical interpretation is wrong, please let me know.
