Sedition and treason and attempted subversion and toppling a duly elected government is not a traffic ticket

This is true, however...the subject of the crime determines the court in which it's heard. Military v. civilian. Awan's case was heard in the highest civilian court (except appeals), so the only thing left to snag him for (for non-violent crimes) is the military.

Any current examples of successful prosecutions of civilians for similar charges? I don’t understand how this cross over to a military justice format works. Sorry for being dense.
