Tom Marquardt, the former Editor of the Capital Gazette, told ABC News he still has a lot of friends who work there and that the "suspense is really terrible" as he waits for news on what happened to them.
Marquardt said the newsroom is on the ground floor and described it as being a very open room.
Newspaper staff had dealt with threats in the past and have always been concerned about security, Marquardt said, adding that angry readers in the past threatened the newspaper over who it endorsed for an election.
Marquardt personally got threats, as did others, but they were mostly anonymous, he said.
They are already out with the expected story - the threat on the newspaper over who it endorsed for an election.
The Capital Gazette is owned by The Baltimore Sun.
Police were also at The Baltimore Sun newsroom in Baltimore. Police said there was no threat on the Sun, and that their presence was a precaution.

“Police and EMS units arrived within 60 seconds of the shooting, something officials credited with saving lives.”
So the DS didn’t like the blow-back regarding Parkland wherein the public had the nerve to question the response time and actions of the Police! Wonder who “had to die” today for the right optics? Maybe a reporter or two who were starting to think independently, ask the wrong questions. Might as well get rid of any potential problems while painting the administration with a propaganda brush...
I did security. If we had response in 7 minutes, it was a win. 60 seconds? BS.
