I didn’t see it as a semi-suicidal montage. To me, it looks like he’s dusted off his guns and is fixing to get down to the business of getting even.
Agreed. Like in “Unforgiven” -where the scene is a hat-tip to Josey. He gives up on the pistol in disgust and heads back into the cabin.
Comes out with a shotgun and blows the can and the fence post all to heck.
