The unthinkable has happened - Germany, reigning world champions, the consummate tournament team, are out of the World Cup at the group stage.
Their failure to beat South Korea on Wednesday afternoon, combined with Sweden's comfortable win over Mexico, saw Joachim Low's men exit Russia at the first hurdle - their first World Cup elimination at this point for 80 years.
Sweden won the group by beating Mexico 3-0 in the other match taking place at the same time, meaning Germany needed to defeat South Korea to get through in second place.

Too bad the game was played at Kazan and not at Volgorad, aka, Stalingrad.

That’s too sweet Mexico and Germany losing in the early rounds. Of course it’s soccer so I couldn’t care less, as a matter of sports. But the national embarrassment is delicious.

Germany lost saved Mexico’s arse so they get to advance.

It wasn’t the loss to SK that killed them, it was the Sweden 3-0 over Mexico that clinched the deal.

Usually they are a lock to play deep into the tournament, semifinals or the final. Big changes coming for the national team.

Happens to every team, it’s Germany’s turn, as it was with Italy and The Netherlands.
Really, it’s no different than what the US is going through, every program goes through cycles.

Kudos for South Korea for playing hard when they had no chance of advancing.
Yes, Poland, I’m looking at you! Better show up against Japan.
