Been retired eight years....never been happier. The wife and I cruise every year and I enjoy getting up every morning and “NOT GOING TO WORK”. Have not missed my job one iota!!! After years of 60 and 70 hour weeks I never dreamed I was this lazy!!!
Everything fell into place for me. We live as good or better than when I was working. The debt free thing is a must. My wife handled all the finances and had everything paid for the moment I clocked out for good.
Id like to believe in the 2.7% rule and hope that works out. Just dont have faith in 4%.
Learn to play guitar if you dont already.

Congratulaions! Will be retired 2 years the end of September. Love it!! My only tip is to not feel guilty about doing nothing. You earned it. ENJOY!!!
That's my plan. I plan to retire TO a foreign country where my pensions and SSN will go a lot further than in the U.S. And, when there, I plan to retire TO a part-time ministry where I can be used by the Lord for His service instead of being chained to a desk for 40 hours/wk slowly killing myself.
I’m locked in until 70 1/2. The house is paid off when I turn 69. I made poor work choices and am about ten years behind the rest of my friends. My Dad lived until 84, so who knows......
I’m enjoying the hell out of it so far. I wave to all the poor souls that head out to join the rat race every morning. Still waking up at 4AM but I do like to take my nap in the afternoon. Enjoy your time off. You earned it.
“Retire? Why? To wait to die, doing nothing? I will never retire. I will work until the day I die. Not what you wanted to hear but take it for what it is worth. Movement keeps you alive; the day you stop moving, well, take it from there.....”
totally agree. Mrs. Catnipman and myself are both “retired”, but only from the corporate world.
We each have small businesses based on the work we used to do in the corporate world. We don’t necessarily need the money and we don’t work full time, because otherwise, what would be the point of “retirement”?
We make nowhere near what we used to in the corporate world, but there’s very little stress now, and we work for who we want to, and more or less when we want to.
this kind of work also keeps us engaged with the world, engaged with people of all kinds, and still contributing our skills, talents, and knowledge ...
“I really enjoy my job.”
that’s the REAL secret ... it’s not exactly “work” if you really enjoy it ...
Avoid people with bad juju but do everything else that interests you in moderation. Read more books, serf less net.
I retired 6 years ago at 61. In my youth, I used to volunteer for everything - now, they all can kiss my backside.
” I wave to all the poor souls that head out to join the rat race every morning.”
isn’t that the truth! the thing i like the most about “retirement” is being able to avoid the traffic rush hours ...

“Avoid people with bad juju”
the other thing i enjoy most about “retirement”: having the ability to almost totally avoid people i don’t care to be around ...
“Retire? Why? To wait to die, doing nothing? I will never retire. I will work until the day I die. “
I have heard that before. Sometimes it is said by people whose life is their work and they have no hobbies. It might also be said as rationalization by someone who blew their money while working and never saved enough money to retire.
You are right in that a person doesn’t want to be sitting around watching TV all day. It is important to find hobbies and things outside of work that are fulfilling. It is also important to save and invest 10-20% of your paycheck while one is working. Over 40 years a person should have saved enough to retire. It is a scary proposition to have to save up enough to last your family for 30 years+.
I’m retired for 3 years now and it was a great decision. Every day I get to decide what I will work on that day. I stay very busy.

I start my exercise at 10AM. Never schedule a haircut or a dental appointment before noon. Always go shopping from 1 - 3PM. Life is good.
