Law enforcement organizations are unlikely to compromise with advocates of a proposal this session to restrict the circumstances under which police officers could use deadly force.
Their staunch opposition significantly diminishes the prospects for Assembly Bill 931, which would increase the state standard for lethal use of force from "reasonable" to "necessary," to become law. Though the measure on Tuesday passed its first policy committee, it faces a lengthy and complicated path ahead in a Legislature historically hesitant to cross law enforcement.

The Rich and famous will get the ability to surround themselves with armed security and insulate themselves and their cozy neighborhoods from the violence to come.

Or they'll move to other parts of the country, because they have the money to and bring their BS ideology with them. Ruining everything in their path like they've done to Washington, Oregon, Colorado and are trying to do in Texas-Arizona-Montana. These people DO NOT assimilate, much like the 3rd world savages that have ruined California. They wait until enough of them have established a foothold and then they use, lawfare and local elections, to take over.
You would have fewer people applying to be Cal law enforcement and find billets being mostly empty. So they’d try to fix this, by increasing the yearly pay scale.
The stuff is getting real!
Calling all those with a death wish. Be a cop!
Even liberal LEOs would veto this one - unless they have actual death wishes....
The SCOTUS standards for use of force and lethal force are clear enough. Adding another state standard will lead to another decade of legal turmoil.
Some judge will decide that it isnt necessary to use lethal force against a lethal threat and we are off to the races.
All of you make valid points. Throwing money at the problem would be a very, very short term fix.
What will happen, the cop’s that do stay, won’t lift a finger. The place, statewide, will make ChiRaq and Mogadishu look like playgrounds. Especially with all the international gangs that in place. Departments around the country are short, all over the place. They’ll soon be a bidding war to get experienced officers from California and surrounding states and cities will be able to fill their ranks. California departments will get the bottom of the barrel. They will then, because of the ever expanding numbers of foreigners, have to make accommodations and begin hiring foreigners, green card holders and resident visa holders, for cultural and language barrier reasons. It will spiral out of control. Taxes will go thru the roof. Violence will be an every day occurrence.
But, the rich, political, elite will protect themselves. Everyone else will suffer. It’ll be Venezuela, Sub Saharan Africa, take your pick, right there on the West Coast. And their policies will soon spill over to other states due to the mass exodus of folks.
Just let them secede, build a wall along the Southern Border and along the eastern border of California and let them have it.
California departments will get the bottom of the barrel.
Not exactly. If this passes it will be to purge all good officers and deputies state wide and replace them with political ones. Then the LEOs will become a standing army of Left. California will become Venezuela on steroids. No middle class, the wealthy and connected, and the poor.
Proof California politicians want chaos and prefer criminals over law abiding citizens. If passed police should all go on strike.
Cops should load their weapons with non-lethal Skittles and spray rioters with purple drank.
True. But that standing Army will be made up of conscripts, for the most part. There won’t be enough money to hire or keep anyone, worthwhile, as the entire state devolves into violence and chaos. They’ll have the bodies to do their bidding, but they aren’t going to be the sharpest knives in the drawer. Just mindless, idiots filling a uniform, doing what they are told for a few scraps. Sure, the higher ranking folks might be a “little” sharper, but not by much.
Think about what it will do to the housing market, for one. People will just walk away from their homes as their neighborhoods will become unlivable. It’ll be a caravan of refugees trying, and I emphasize trying, to get to the surrounding states. That is, if they can make it without being robbed. And those homes will then be filled with more and more illegals, turning into, literally, a failed state.
As for the wealthy and poor divide. IMHO, that will go on for a while. But, eventually all industry will leave, except for the ports. Those places will be on lockdown.
All your you have to do is look at Baltimore. They went after cops, blamed cops, prosecuted cops, and now complain that there is too much crime.
Just think of that on the State level.
