Not a Franco fan because of how he treated diplomats who helped Jews in the Holocaust (Spain was "neutral" during the war.) -- HOWEVER thanks to the fact the communists never took hold: The Monarchy was saved

Beyond disgusting. Franco saved the nation from - LITERALLY - being handed over to Stalin.
AND - he kept Spain from being devastated in WW2.
He is absolutely one of the truly heroic figures in the bloody history of Spain and the 20th Century in general (much like Gen Pinochet was in Chile).
