Vanity-going to Idaho
My Keyboard ^ | 6/18/18 | Cali F Reak

Posted on 06/18/2018 2:31:54 PM PDT by Califreak

My daughter and I will be traveling to Idaho soon to check out U of I Moscow and surrounding areas.

Thinking of doing a loop through Reno, up 95 and back down through Oregon.

Looking for ideas, suggestions, warnings and general information.

If you get near Post Falls, visit the Buck Knife Factory.

Don’t miss the John Day Fossil Beds and the nearby Painted Hills (Oregon).

Visit the Snake River Oregon Trail museum and trail tracks. Near Mountain Home. Further east, Craters of the Moon national park, Idaho Falls.

Keep off the path, beware of the gate
Watch out for signs that say “hidden driveways”
Don’t let the chlorine in your eyes
Blind you to the awful surprise
That’s been waitin’ for you at
The bottom of the bottomless blue, blue, blue pool

Moscow is a nice low crime town but the school is only 2 miles from a Recreational cannabis store on Washington side of the border. The Moscow area is a pleasant place to live, however is one of the most liberal areas in Idaho.

There is virtually nothing from Reno to Winnemucca...Nothing!
Drive fast, drive far. Enjoy 90+MPH. Fill up the vehicle in Reno.

There is one area to stop for fast food about halfway to Winnemucca, but that’s about it. Don’t stop in Winnemucca, it’s a place where hopes/dreams go to die. Heh...

Good suggestion. Make sure to check their hours before visiting. We stopped by once, thinking they’d be open, and they were not (maybe a Saturday?). Just be sure you can get in when you stop by.

Also, the town of Coeur d’Alene is worth a stop. Nice shops and a beautiful lake. World’s longest floating boardwalk (according to them).

If you go north another hour is an amusement park area, called Silverwood, that is a lot of fun for a day or so.

Craters of the moon was a very interesting visit. Something I would wholeheartedly suggest. Even my 13 year old daughter liked it. (She is 28 now, she stills tells people about it.)

As long as I don’t let the sun catch me crying I should be fine.

If you go through Elko Nevada definitely go to the Ruby mountains (Lamoille Canyon). Beautiful and unspoiled scenery. In Idaho the Sawtooth range is very impressive.

That’s a good idea.

Lots of knives in our family.

Yes, I am learning that Moscow is much more like.... home than I would wish.

We have dispensaries on almost every street here.

We are also thinking of moving up here, but would be more likely to go to a small town nearby than Moscow proper.

Cool that you’re going to Moscow! One of my best friends grew up there!

And I’ve been that way before and here’s my random tips:

1. If you can buy some onions in Weiser then do so! These are the same onions that Ore-Ida uses for making onion rings for virtually every restaurant in America and they are the PERFECT onion for any dish!

2. Lakeview Produce at the corner of Karcher & Riverside just off of 95 on SR55 is the best farmstand in Idaho! Their potatoes are ugly but huge and tasty! Also try their cinnamon bread and their jams! They’re pricey but trust me when I say they’re worth it!

3. Homestead Cafe in Weiser is a great place for lunch/dinner and it’s less than a mile off of 95.

If all you do is get a bag of onions then trust me you will discover something special!!!

I envy you. I have a sister who lives in far eastern Oregon, in Baker City. You might even go near there while either going to or from Idaho on I-84. I have not made a trip yet to her place but I want to. I also want to visit Coeur de Alene Idaho.

Back when travelers used cb radios, there was a brothel in Winnemucca that advertised to truck drivers on one band.

Love it when anti-Christians play the religious card.........

No, patriotism isn’t the first card politicos play - it’s the “Quote the scripture” card........meaning I’ll use scripture when it helps me criticize my enemies, but still reject most of it.......

Hypocrisy is the #2 dominant trait of liberals.

#1 is lying.
