I remember a story many years ago of the divorced husband, before leaving the house, put dead ?fish? in the expensive curtain rods. The house smelled, nothing they did seemed to work, so they put it up for sale at a low amount. The ex bought the house from them, then fixed the problem

Sure, any sane court would assess some sort of malicious vandalism penalty.

Anyone doing this would be best to have a light profile... and get out of reach.
