Since I’ve been having trouble with medical stuff including a suspicious itchy area for months, possible bite, I’ve read that neither of these spiders is really that big a threat.

Sort of like what I found out about scorpions. Not to mention the myth of the lemmings and piranhas.

Don't know where you read that but the Brown Recluse is the most poisonous spider in North America. If you had been bitten by a Recluse you itchy spot for months.You would have had a far more severe reaction months ago.
