...who are, at least at first glance, elite, white, and educated themselves. Why is it that progressives always feel the rest of us are unable to transcend our own innate nature but that they uniquely are?
this was tremendously mean but i can’t stop laughing.
“Is mind loss a Leftist value?”
Hey, it’s no great loss if you had little to start with. I doubt they’d know the difference.
I don't mean that they're kidding.
I mean that they say stuff like this so that they can afford the "yoga room ideas," "bench sofas," and "lattice screen dividers" on Allison's Pinterest page.
You can be the most shallow, materialistic white Westerner and make a living talking nonsense like this and not even be aware of the contradiction.
There's a massive chasm between the things academics say and the way they actually life.
________
I don't think it's about Westerners and non-Westerners anyway. In some societies, fat is beautiful, but I don't think that was true of China or India or Mesopotamia any more than it was of Greece and Rome. Once you get cities and aristocracies, thin becomes attractive. I'm not saying that the ideal type in those days was as slender as today's photoshopped models, but fat wasn't the ideal in most urban civilizations, Western or Eastern.
You're right. I apologize. ... to buffalo.
So, if I get this straight, if I am a Westerner and I wish to lose weight, then I have disgusting Western values. However if I don’t wish to lose weight, then, by definition, I must be culturally appropriating some disadvantaged culture where people are fat. Or, I could simply be emulating some Nation where people are generally thin, perhaps starving, as long as I properly attribute my thinness to someone in Ethiopia, perhaps, or the Philippines. What’s important, is that either way, I just suck. Do I have that right?
Does these prof really believe this, or are they playing “can you top this” seeing what they can put across?
Far less fat people in Asia.
To quote an old aphorism from Kruschev what we really need to do around here is to shoot a few more intellectuals.
