As a female, artists never present me with the models that I most enjoy, though I was brought up to see the artistic beauty of the female form. Even female artists seem to concentrate on painting children and babies. The reason I can’t find any interest in Mary Cassatt. But FINALLY an artist who paints sexy men. Couldn’t care less why, just grateful that he and I both enjoy the same images. Thank you, Leyendecker!
What I especially love is the variation in his style. He seems to have such control over his work. I always try to show the fundamentals in these videos, so I’m using a lot of his studies, rather than final pieces. Notice that from his earliest work, his studies have a grid of lines and Xs in which he sizes his proportions. I haven’t seen that before. I wondered if he was working from photos, but saw a photo of him working with a live model in full football gear and posture.
