Assad-family and Kim-dynasty relationship goes back decades. In addition to the park and street named for Kim Il Sung, there is also a mural bearing his image hand in hand with Hafez Al-Assad at the October War Panorama Museum commemorating North Korea's aiding of Syria in the "Yom Kippur War" against Israel in 1973.
