The city tried to blame Chip and Joanna Gains for the high appraisals on residential properties. Then the appraisers admitted they did not include the Fixer Upper houses as comparables.

If I remember correctly the appraised values can only go up a maximum of 10% a year. So the 17% figure is misleading.

Unlike residential homestead appraisals, which are capped at ten percent, appraisal increases for commercial property taxes are not limited by law.
