He has a very expensive college education and no need to pay for it through service or anything else. What other benefits will he need?

Besides, less-than-honorable discharge does not automatically disqualify you for all veterans benefits. It's up to the VA.

I’ll bet money he only got a General Discharge, which qualifies him for all benefits.

A UOTHC discharge is hard to come back from, and generally the VA won’t award benefits. Most of the BMCRs won’t consider an upgrade unless a “clear injustice” was found.
