Mazda wanted to bring its clean diesel to the states, but its testing showed it was just a fraction worse than California wanted, and it couldn’t go the rest of the way without costly add-ons, so it gave up on the US.
VW simply lied, as did apparently everyone else.
Mazda was screwed over.
