There was always some serious consideration, if it was coming up during every single communication Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin had, you know it was being studied out of necessity!

Anyone who looks at it can see just how badly that would have gone. We would have been slaughtered, we were not ready in any way. Kasserine Pass was a prime example of how we would have performed in a 1942 invasion of France. We got plenty of valuable experience in North Africa and Italy that served us well in June 1944 in the invasion of France.

I think the book that did it for me was “Witness” by Whittaker Chambers.

I was never able to view that era, or now, in the same light again.

“It was forced on the West by Stalin agent Harry Hopkins, “

Normandy and the south of France as invasion sites were dictated by geography rather than Harry Hopkins. Planners had to look no farther than ‘the Norman Conquest’ to figure out where to land an army.

If Hopkins or even FDR had imposed a Normandy invasion that went against the advice of the uniformed military there would be accounts about it. There aren’t any that I’ve ever heard of. Figuring out European invasion routes is about as simple as studying the campaigns of Napolean, Caesar, Hannibal and a few others who made a science out of moving large armies around the place.

I think we are all in agreement on this!

Stalin may have been demanding it, but as I like to say, Demand in one hand, crap in the other, see which one fills up first!

Thank you -excellent posts. Alger Hiss should have been put in prison for life. Venona Id’d him specifically. Him and Harry Hopkins. More of the hahhhhvahd ‘club’ of button down socialists and red playboys with daddy’s trust funds. Hiss was a disgusting individual. And the Left never forgot how Nixon pursued and exposed “one of their own”.

Have mentioned this before, but- “In the Garden of the Beasts.... Erik Larson (Ambassador Dodd’s family in Weimar Berlin as hitler rose. Dodd FDR’s chicago socialist appointment, that State dept. hated- cause they loved hitler, just like the Prince Edward did- lest we forget who was Amb. to King James Court)— Dodd’s daughter was screwing not only the first Gestapo head, Diehls, but later a KGB agent assigned to her as a spy on the US. Eventually Dodd’s daughter married a commie jewish publisher (wealthy of course) and they split for Czecho to live out their lives— because McCarthy had properly tagged her and her husband. The Soviet “long view” in espionage. One screwed up female and the names associated with her cell included Hiss. Fascinating read, and includes the ignoring of anti-semitism by State dept. button downs who protected their turf. Sound familiar?
