In the movie, Braveheart, it was Robert's father, who made a deal with Longshanks to secure the Bruce's linage to the Scottish throne.

If I remember my movie history right, Robert The Bruce turned out to be a traitor to William Wallace, didn’t he?As portrayed in "Braveheart". But that film was not very historically accurate.
