The rifle is in great shape, original wood, matching serial numbers, etc. One side looks new, the other has some storage scratches.

I bought one about that year range a long time ago. I bought many magazines when the Colorado Mag Ban was looming. I fired it with all magazines and never had a misfire. Maybe 20 mags fully loaded and one after the other.

That look almost exactly like a 12ga shotgun a guy wants to sell me. A JTS? Anyone know anything about them?

There were some Romanian AKs that had canted sights, and were impossible to zero. I think those were from military surplus kits.

In your last picture, directly above the trigger, there appear to be a pair of slots that I’m guessing something was originally supposed to clamp into. Then it appears that metal bits got pounded over them, partially covering them.
Anybody got ideas?

Century Arms much improved. Purchased one of these from them 'NIB'. Sights canted. Had some feeding issues. Beechwood furniture difficult to refinish. I used Russian Orange. Ugly as hell.
Put ACE folding stock on and new forehand. Fixed it up and now a decent shooter.

The SAR-1 is comparable to the WASR 10. The SAR-1 is a good AK rifle but the lack of a bayonet lug and threads would bug me (thanks Bill Clinton). If it doesn’t bother you, enjoy the AK and blast away. You definitely need some surplus steel combloc magazines for her.
At my AK party last month, I helped a guy with a SAR-1 put his rifle back to the original configuration. We swapped out the gas block and threaded the barrel.

They usually run good, but rough on the exterior, which isn’t a big deal, it is an AKM!
Someone had to convert it, so common issues would be the magazines being real wobbly when inserted which can cause feeding issues and the front sights being installed canted, some will be bad enough you can’t get enough windage adjustment to get the shots in the center.

They’re generally good rifles.
