Little doubt about the helmets origin. Quite a find.

No. The Golden Fleece is to the south. In what is today Georgia.

I still hear that commercial in my head from time to time. Seems like it was just a few years ago. Time flies.

Flies like "Deplane, boss! Deplane!"
Remember the "shaving cream so thick it could stop this sports car?" Commercials concepts, scripts, and jingles in the 70s were at their peak. Sometimes more entertaining than the featured show.

Thanks, Sunken Civ! The
Corinthian Helmet is testimony that weaponry and
fine art have been partners since the earliest times! BTW, that
"General view":
"of the burial..." is quite interesting:
- There is one (recognizable) skull, four legs & two spinal columns. i.e Two individuals. (Female/homo companion?)
- The helmet is buried with the opening toward the grave wall. Significance? Keeping content in place? (See last point...
- Is that another corroding bronze object (helmet?) in that bowl at top center?
- The gravediggers/undertakers weren't too respectful/workmanlike. They didn't even dig a small hole to keep the amphora upright -- just leaned it against the grave wall & backfilled around it -- leaving it with its top barely below the ground surface...
- The "helmet" photo is flipped horizontallly. There is a vertebra and arm & hand bones between it and the grave corner.
- The vertebral column of the skeleton nearest the helmet is shortened, Almost makes one wonder if the skull is still inside the helmet...
Again, thanks for posting this!

Yup, but it wasn't literally made in Corinth -- probably, we'll not know for sure I suspect -- but Corinth meant "Place of the Carians".

Despite the slapdash work by the gravediggers, from their day to ours no one had stumbled across it before. :^)

Thanks, and/or thanks again, for all the interest and the replies, including the Chrysler subthread, which was, as Robert DeLong said, "A fine example of FR topical branching." :^) Since I didn't keep track of who got my earlier thiank you, I'm just thanking everyone through message 70.
