A tractor-trailer traveling southbound on Interstate 15 slammed into the back of another tractor-trailer and Chevrolet pickup Tuesday night near Stoddard Wells Road after failing to yield to stopped traffic, according to a CHP news release.
At the time of the collision, which authorities say occurred at approximately 11:57 p.m., traffic was at a standstill due to a full-freeway closure for construction of the D Street Bridge.
As traffic was being routed off the freeway at Stoddard Wells Road, 52-year-old Mariano Valle, of Montclair, approached the stopped vehicles in a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling at 60 mph. For unknown reasons, Valle failed to reduce his speed and crashed into the back of a 2019 International tractor trailer, driven by 26-year-old Aaron Goode, of Maricopa, Arizona.
The force of the collision pushed Goodes tractor-trailer off to the right, and allowed Valles vehicle to continue forward and strike the back of a Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Gardena resident Marco Torres, who was stopped in front of Goode. The pickup truck suffered only minor damage.
According to authorities, the collision caused Valles truck to catch fire, which was quickly extinguished. Valle sustained minor injuries from the collision and was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Officials did not immediately believe alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the CHP Victorville Area office.
Anyone with information regarding the collision can call CHP at 760-241-1186.
The worst drivers in Texas are the ones in pickups around Conroe on I-45.
Sounds like a good one.
Or watching porn.
Oops. LOL - Stayed overnight at a Conroe hotel. Took a stroll around the grounds in the morning and saw a woman examining her BMW. The upper grill and hood was smashed in. Told her it looked like a pickup backed into the car overnight.
You should buy a copy on Amazon. Here's a review:
Collateral Crimes is the best crime thriller Ive read in years. Its a riveting, fast-moving, well-crafted page turner that had me hooked from the beginning.

failing to yield to stopped traffic
My uncle has a pickup truck, but he actually uses it to pick up stuff.
.....That's rare
If you want to see a slow pickup, just check out your average duelly. I don’t know whether it’s the wheelbase interfering with the speed or what, but they tend to go slower than the average.
Yes, but I’m sure you actually go AROUND the stopped traffic, not through it.
I’m probably gonna look for it at the library first. Tend to do that with most books.
Thanks for the recommendation.
It's not in the library yet. I wish it were. Besides, don't you want to help out a fellow Freeper? (I wrote it.)

As a FedEx truck driver I'm saying next time that happens get his truck number and call the company. If they can prove it, it's automatic termination. Even if they can't prove it, your complaint will be followed-up on and will put the fear of God into him/her.
FedEx is pretty lenient with it's drivers but using electronic gear, even hands-free, while driving is automatic termination.
That said, as a truck driver, I'd say easy 95% of the people I see in cars in the passenger seat have a phone while well over 50% of the drivers are texting or reading their phone. I've come across numerous accidents where in daylight, dry conditions where the driver has just gone straight off the road instead of making a curve. The reason is obvious.
Of course it affects ME as their screw-up by not paying attention results in backups.
