Darlene to the rescue? Roughly 72 hours after cancelling Roseanne amid controversy, ABC is looking to possibly keep the franchise alive with a spinoff centered on Sara Gilberts acid-tongued single mom, TVLine has confirmed.
The standalone Darlene series was one of five offshoots proposed by TVLine in the wake of Roseannes spectacular fall on Tuesday. ABC could not be reached for comment.
It was three days ago that ABC announced it was scrapping the series already-greenlit 11th season after its titular star Roseanne Barr tweeted a racist joke about Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett. In announcing the cancellation, ABC president Channing Dungey called Barrs comment abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values. Gilbert, meanwhile, said she was disappointed in Barrs actions to say the least, while showrunner Bruce Helford said he was horrified and saddened by the remark.

Exactly
I was hoping the show could go on as “The Connors,” with John Goodman, perhaps as a widower who marries say Patricia Heaton.
Please, don’t center the series around the lefty lesbian Sara Gilbert!
The original run of the series turned me off with all the gay stories.
The best attribute was the focus on the struggles of a blue collar family in middle American and I was looking forward to Roseanne and Dan extolling their status as “deplorables!!” It’s a shame that they dropped any real mention of President Trump after just the first episode.
I have been meaning to see Barton Fink for ages ... They are my kind of movie ... I’ll have to check it out this weekend if I get the time :-)!!!
They already lost at least half the potential viewing audience....those who decided they liked Roseanne already detest Gilbert almost as much as she detests herself.
Some spinoffs do work. “Frasier” is an excellent example. The successful ones usually have a likable main character. Darlene is the opposite of likable. Homely and nasty.
“Way to throw Rosie under the bus, Dan”
Yes. He, along with the rest of the cast, would be unknowns on God’s green earth. Loyalty. Maybe he could grow a pair and do what’s right. Take a lesson from the young female soccer player who chose principles over career.
Oh do check out Barton Fink! If not this weekend whenever you find time. Ive seen it at least 3-4 times. There is a stylistic quality to it visually and underlying emotions that cause tense anticipation. I love those types of movies. LOL. Please let me know after you see it, ok?
