You get physically fit, but go deaf in the process.

I think they have “softened” the workouts a bit. My one nephew has been doing it for the last two years, and his WOD doesn’t seem as strenuous as when I was Crossfiting 11-12 years ago. When my WOD called for 100 pull-ups, there was no kipping, they were strict pull-ups. Pukey the Clown was very prevalent ,ie: t-shirts, water bottles, etc. I don’t think there is any mention of Pukey anymore. Tell ya one thing though, I was a ripped up 50 year old.

My son made a serious attempt for the ONE HOUR PULL UP record, about ten years ago.
He completed 312, the world record was 320.

At 6-2 his arms are too long! Longer travel and cycle time.

IIRC, now the record is over one thousand.

No kipping, they video the event.

Got to love Hermosa Beach. Where they have to dig pretty deep in the sand to find their next problem. Yoga and bar puking the worst crimes around.

An atheist, a vegan, and a crossfitter walk into a bar...
I only know because they told everyone within two minutes.

Lol! Great joke!

All 3 are proselytizing religions.

Kipping is essential in gymnastics. I don’t get what crossfitters do it for.

Kipping is a body movement that takes little strength but a long learning curve to get. Once you’ve got it, it’s like riding a bike, but some kids take a year of daily training to learn the technique. Some get it right away. It’s like pulling your pants up while in the air horizontally. Again, it’s just a body memory move. It is not a strength move. What is the CrossFit point of it??

To generate fake pull up numbers.

Did you get injured?

I did, but it was two years into it, and it was a re- injury from 25 years prior, so I won’t hold Crossfit responsible for that. I had been very, very hard on my body.

Really? That is stupid. Pull-up strength can be measured in traditional numbers or even made stronger by slowed down lifts and or holds which increase strength so much. New thought is that large numbers of pull-ups may not increase functional strength as much as fewer and slower (reducing momentum) pullups do. And less injury risk. And holds may even increase strength more. Like chin up holds.

Kips are a small part strength, the initial pull, and then mostly coordination. 75% coordination. It’s why little kids can learn it, when they are so small they have tiny muscles, not much testosterone at all if any. And you do ONE Kip to get where you are going, in gymnastics. No one does it repeatedly, it would be pointless. (You do it to get to the top of the bar and pause with “straight arms” holding the bar beneath you to then do other high bar moves.)

CrossFit is a joke. I see people throw money at them to run around the block and do sit-ups in the parking lot. You can do that at home!

Excellent.

On a good day, I can do 3 sets of 20. But I’m OK with that- I just turned 50.

Yep...cleans and snatches take quite some time to learn and should be only taught by knowledgeable coaches. They are very dangerous movements and, unfortunately, I’ve seen a number of people injured doing them.
