Do you think ammonia/water would work for deer?

We have deer in our yard. They eat all my wife's flowers.

And they drop ticks.

‘Liquid Fence’ is the best.

There are sprays you can buy to repel deer; or if there is a male dog in your household, have them pee in a spray bottle and spray that around (male humans, too). Some of my neighbors add garlic and cigarette ashes to the pee.

I have had fair luck by tying 1" strips of fabric softener sheets (like Downy) to the fencing around the flowers or also to the branches of suscepltible shrubs, but it ruins the looks of the garden, even when you tie them in bows.

Finally I dug up all my really susceptible plants (google what they like and don't like) and now have things they mostly don't like, such as marigolds, mint varieties, sage, and crysanthemums. But they will eat anything in a pinch.

They really love hollies, any type of lily, hostas, sunflowers, tomatoes, hydrangea, coneflowers, even geraniums. Buh-bye to all those.
