To be fair, when Johnny Manziel said on NFL draft night that he was going to wreck this league, he didnt say which league.
Manziel is back in football. The former Cleveland Browns first-round pick who last played in the NFL in 2015, signed with the Canadian Football Leagues Hamilton Tiger-Cats, he said on Twitter. He said its for what looks like two years. He said he missed playing football, and thats why he signed.
With that, the CFL became more interesting this season.
Manziel flamed out spectacularly in the NFL. He was admittedly not prepared to be a pro quarterback, and created many more headlines off the field than he made plays on the field. Manziel said he has stopped drinking and now takes medication for bipolar disorder.
That still didnt mean the NFL was ready to welcome him back. Manziel has been touting his comeback through social media for a while. But The path back to the NFL wasnt going to be that easy, as he got no real interest. He had to go and prove himself again, and the CFL might be perfect for that. CFLs game should fit Manziels style.
While Manziel has become a punch line over the years, hes also one of the most exciting players in college football history. His free-wheeling style was perfect for Texas A&M, and it should translate well to the larger CFL field too. Thats assuming he hasnt lost most of his skills during a long layoff. However, its also easy to see Manziel, assuming hes focused and in shape, doing the same things on a CFL field that helped win him a Heisman Trophy.

A complete waste of a draft pick. Anyone could have seen the kid was not going to make it in the national felons league.....though he does have the resume for it.
Glad he is Canada’s problem now.
Maybe Kapernick will join him in Canada.
Evidently he’s smarter than Colin Kaepernick. Colin could play Canada and not worry about kneeling for the Star Spangled Banner.
Who cares?
Be honest. Even a Pet Rock is smarter than Colon Takeaknee.
Are there still pet rocks out there? :>)
Happy for him and wish him and the CFL the best. No more entertaining player in football. Left college two years too early or perhaps things could have been different.
McCain is still sucking air, right?
What’s a tiger-cat? Something else only found in Canada?
Back in 1950, the Hamilton Tigers and Hamilton Wildcats merged.
Hamilton's first preseason game is on June 1.
You can guarantee that ESPN will carry that one instead of streaming it.
Apparently, its from a long ago merger between the Hamilton Tigers and the Cats, or something like that.
Go Stampeders!
Hamilton Tiger-Cats were formed when the Hamilton Tigers and the Hamilton Wildcats merged. Yeah. Tigers and Wildcats. CFL does not have a lot of imagination with nicknames. For years there were two teams nicknamed “rough riders”.
Mental health and addiction issues. Clear from his behavior in the NFL and perhaps before. Hope he straightens his life out. Redemption is available for us all if we choose to pursue it.
I think their life spans are thousands and thousands of years...
I agree - it was a blast watching Tex A@M games with Johnny M as QB. I wish him well and hope he succeeds. I believe that a person can grow and mature.
Now...there’s an idea !
If I was the most famous player in Aggie history, I believe I would have behaved in much the same way when I was 19-20 years old...
