I see an older Russian gent from time to time where I work. Great guy. Couldn’t speak a lick of English when I first met him, and I recently complimented him on his remarkable fluency in English over such a short time.
He grinned and said, “English, yes, I am an American now, so English.”
That’s what the door in the big, beautiful wall is going to be for.
There was a middle aged Ukranian woman who was a cleaning lady in a nursing home I visited frequently——she barely spoke English, but enough to communicate to me that she went to night school to learn English.
Within one year she knew enough to become a nurse’s aide-——still going to night school.
I lost track of her then but I guarantee she did VERY well.
