A woman purported to be the oldest living person ever at 128 says she hasn't lived a single happy day in her life and her longevity is "a punishment".
The Russian government claims Koku Istambulova is the world's oldest person.
But she has bluntly said her longevity "was God's will" and she "did nothing to make it happen".
While some people chalk it up to a healthy or active lifestyle, "tired" Koku said: "I have no idea how I lived until now."
Due to turn 129 in two weeks, she added: I have not had a single happy day in my life."
-snip-
The claim was made by the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation and is based on Koku's internal passport which shows her date of birth as 1 June 1889.
If correct, Koku - who shuns meat and loathes soups, but loves fermented milk - was already 27 when the last tsar, Nicholas II, was forced to abdicate in March 1917. She was 55 when the Second World War ended in 1945, and 102 when the Soviet Union collapsed a generation ago in 1991.

Every day there is another “oldest person alive” that is older than yesterday’s oldest person.
“Oldest person dies at 117” then a week later “Oldest person dies at 120”
WTF ?
Genesis 6:3
Doesn’t look a day over 95...
It is not just gypsies that perpetuate this type of fraud. The lady who owned the “problem” house across the street died several years ago. Her career criminal son kept collecting the reverse mortgage, social security benefits, and the property tax exemption and let his criminal friends move in. They were cooking meth, selling drugs, selling stolen goods... doing all sorts of other bad stuff.
The neighbors and I were in repeated contact with the police and code enforcement, who did nothing for years. The power was cut-off at the pole after repeated meter jumpering to steal electricity, but that was about it, and the criminals just started running a loud generator day and night.
The city and utilities departments kept fining the “owner” but not actually filing liens against the property since it was technically owned by HUD. HUD of course refused to do anything either. One of the city officials kept referring to the head criminal as the “owner's son”. I sent him an email with a copy of Edna's obituary and told him that the “owner's son” had no intention of ever paying fines they were assessing to his mother.
Somehow this finally started the wheels turning and the house went on the market shortly afterward. But if this were a death in a gypsie or other close knit ethnic group they most likely would have kept her death from being recorded and would still be collecting all of the benefits.
Dear God, please grant her a few happy days on Earth and a happy eternity.
“Happiness is a moral obligation”...Prager ping.
Fermented milk is KEIFER and i admonish all to get making your own KOMBUCHA, which also is fermented.
Also sometimes eat kimchee.
As per the article, she was brought up Muslim.
Anybody besides me read the article?
Did she make John Coffee(”Like the drink.”) ride the Lightning? “Sometimes the Green Mile seems so long.”
Communism is not about making people happy, it is about seizing and concentrating power.
The rest is just cover story.
That would explain it...
This is just not a credible statement. It reminds me of my long dead Norwegian Grandmother. She would fight furiously with the Swedes in the retirement center over who had the most miserable life. They were nearly all affluent but they each claimed to have suffered the most. Anyone who had been through some really bad stuff was shunned from the group. It was quite amusing to observe.
Basically everyone has happy and sad days in their lives regardless of their surroundings and circumstances. And in fact, a simpler life style is typically more conducive to happiness.
Tell me this old lady wasn't happy when a flower or vegetable from seeds she planted came popping through the dirt. Or tell me she wasn't happy when her goat gave birth if she didn't have children of her own, or she got a new kitten or chicken, or pig. You just cannot take this type of statement seriously.
Almost all the cases of someone over 120 are cases of mistaken identity (parent or grandparent with the same name), or identity fraud.
I dunno. She don’t look a day over 106.
Well no wonder she was unhappy.
“They have either discovered the oldest person in the world or the longest-running pension fraud.”
I remember either a yogurt or cereal commercial some years ago featuring some old people from a part of the Soviet Union. Supposedly the average age was around 100 and people in the area lived well beyond 110 years.
A few years later the truth was known.
No one in those remote villages kept records.
Births and deaths were only recorded in family bibles or by the family patriarch/matriarch.
Since bibles were banned in the USSR there was no way to prove those people’s ages
Most of them lied in order to get their Soviet pension.
The people in the commercial were in their 60’s-70’s.
huh, I’ll have to give it a try.
people seem to think getting old is easy....its not...
pneumonia used to be called the blessing of the aged, but nowadays, we can't let people just die naturally...we have to keep everyone alive even if their bodies do not work let alone their minds...
and this lady....as she says, she doesn't know why she is still alive but that God is deeming it so....
old people get to an age and a condition where they wonder "why can't I just die"....and each day they wake up....
