Why would they risk taking out JEB this way?

JEB is in the same uniparty as HRC.

These are the exact characteristics of a Totalitarian Police State:
1) Single Party (even if it appears to be more)
2) The secret police (e.g., KGB) is VERY involved in domestic affairs OUTSIDE the LAW—especially against political opponents.
3) Controlled media.

Donald Trump attacked at least 2 of these 3 legs (uniparty and controlled media), and the “secret police” faction of the intelligence community came after him (with help of other 2).

What they weren't counting on was the winning candidate being a fierce fighter. I certainly could not see Jeb, Kasich, or most other candidates fighting this thing head-on. Cruz, he'd probably take a different tac, but I'm not sure how long he would stand up to it either.
