During an impromptu exchange away from the microphone, Familias surviving partner Vincent Maher presented the president with a challenge coin.
That coin, which was created by the precinct to raise money for the family of the fallen officer, held special meaning for Maher.
Ive carried the coin with me every day since I got it, and while I was up there I just had some sort of a compelled feeling to take it out of my pocket and present the president with it.
One side of the coin showed Familias photo.
The other showed her badge number (7370), her precinct (46th), and the Latin inscription fidelis ad mortem
That inscription translates to faithful, unto death.
