NEWS Study reveals how much teachers spend each year on school supplies
NY Post ^ | May 15, 2018 | Associated Press

Nearly all public school teachers report digging into their pockets to pay for school supplies, spending nearly $480 a year, far more than the federal $250 tax deduction available to teachers.

The findings by the National Center of Education Statistics released Tuesday come as teachers across the country are walking out of classrooms to protest low pay and demand pay raises. Helping teachers pay for class supplies was a key demand during the Arizona teachers’ strike.

Are you suggesting the thousands of corrupt unionized teachers in LA, the largest school district in the country, are not overpaid? Really?

Not every teacher in the country is part of the NEA and not everyone is part of a union.

Did you read my comment? Ya keep ducking and dodging. I was talking about the biggest school district in the country and many other corrupt unionized school districts in the major population centers.

You've repeatedly attempted to evade the question below. Lets try one more time. It's an easy question.☺

Are you suggesting the thousands of corrupt unionized teachers in LA, the largest school district in the country, are not overpaid?

??

Bull sh*t. It’s not mandatory. No one is forcing you to join a corrupt union. Not all school districts are unionized like the other poster indicated. This is a choice.

No, it's your comment which is ridicules. You suggesting these poor people have no choice but to work at place which are run by Communist sympathizers, La Raza, Socialist Workers Party, et al. Get real.

Not to mention the "old" equipment they take home, speakers, TV's vcr's, you name it.

LOL! My kids' school still has CRT TVs. I'm pretty sure no teacher is taking those home.

Of course that’s not all they have to spend. Any more and they need the requisition process. My thoughts were just a flat discretionary budget for little stuff, no year to year carry forward. It would probably relieve a lot of overhead / management duties too. They won’t have to go begging the parents and crap.

Of course most of them have lived in a government cocoon so long they won’t understand it.

Well checking the pay scale on the LAUSD website, the salary range for a teacher is $50,000 to $82,000. Given the cost of living in the area, I would not say that this is extravagant. Now if there's a teacher who is truly scamming the system somehow, by all means they shouldn't be there. What salary do you think would be fair?

What I’d like to see is districts springing for in-class emergency supplies. First aid kit, kitty litter & a lidded bucket (imagine being in lockdown & someone pukes from nerves?), water, etc.

So you think corrupt LATU teachers getting $75,000++ per year is not overpaid? Ya say they have to be paid this much because they couldn’t afford to live there?

Are they unable to commute to the desert like tens of thousands in the private sector are force to move to because they too couldn’t afford it?

What’s up with that?

???

Many people grow up with dreams of being a teacher and making a difference. It is unfortunate that the path to that dream in NYC and many other cities obligates aspiring teachers to join the union. If they don't want to work for the cities and have diverse populations of students and decent educational equipment to use, they can work for parochial schools, at a fraction of the salary and a shadow of the benefits of public school teaching. Since the union is not a daily or even weekly touchpoint, most people would opt for the former and simply enjoy teaching their kids. I doubt if many aspiring teachers ponder whether they should accept a decent job with good benefits or not based on the political views of the union.

I rather seriously doubt that med school graduates would refuse a position in a prestigious hospital because of the political views of the union there, or person deciding to run for office would turn down the nomination because they'd have to deal with unscrupulous " Communist sympathizers, La Raza, Socialist Workers Party, et al." It's YOU, buddy, who should get real and stop talking out of your nether orifice.

Another thing, if they can’t afford to live somewhere because their job don’t pay enough, don’t most people just move to a location where they can afford to live and buy a home?

Why should corrupt unionized teachers be any different?

Look, they have a choice. No one is forcing you to work for anyone. So don’t give me this cow flop that these poor teachers have no choice but to work but to work for Communist backed unions.

Do you watch grown men playing ballgames in taxpayer supported playpens? I have much more problems with that.

What are some examples of corruption you keep talking about? I'm not from the area, so I'm not familiar with the problems they may be having.

Oh gezzz, lets see, 90 percent of those in the private sector hate their freaking jobs but work anyway. Am I supposed to get out violin and play it for ya?

Again, no one is forcing you or anyone else to join unionized corrupt organizations which are totally supported by La Raza, Socialist Workers Party, the Democrats, et al.

You have a choice. Don't give me this BS they don't have a choice. Ya might want to peddle this to someone who might buy it, no sale here.

Instead of evading questions, start answering them. See those question marks?

Let me get this straight, you don't know about unionized corruption? I should warn ya. I don't play well with posers and those playing stupid.

You sound like a very sad person. I am not particularly concerned whether you "buy" what I said or not. Having worked in the trenches for a quarter century, I know what's what, whereas you can merely surmise.

No I’m a rational happy person. But nice try at diversion and evasion.

Your position is people have no choice but to work for corrupt leftist unions. No? But the glaring fact is, they do have a choice. So you’re wrong.

This is not complex.

I waited to post #57. Many teachers don’t teach worth a dam*. Scores seem to always trend downward while taxes trend upward. How about some accountability. Fire the incompetent...the slackers...the worthless admin and management. Without accountability all are free to be useless. That said I never met an “educator” who did not eventually get to the whiney bottom line: they are overworked and underpaid.

Those that can do, those that can't teach.

And the corollary - those that can’t teach become journalists.
