This sort of “divorce” between older folks and their adult children has become quite common. Dennis Prager addresses the situation from time to time on his (outstanding) radio program, and when he does his switchboard lights up.
I have a number of friends whose children refuse to speak to them. It is heartbreaking, but I have experienced with some friends and relatives, they are toxic to my life. I cannot imagine what most of my friends may have done to cause this behavior from their children. With some friends, I understand it.
Parents act like their children are goldfish - no memory and no ability for rational thought.
They pursue their own agendas, and then suddenly the kids are gone (escaped), they run out of people to exploit, and so they act like their owed something from their kids.
They aren’t. Parents pay it forward, because their parents did the same, and so on.
You thank God for the privilege of raising kids, and then you die.

Sorry, I know its a group and their are exceptions, but the numbers don’t like.
