HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — A mother in South Carolina received a special Mother's Day gift Sunday after the staff at a Ruby Tuesday's noticed she was eating lunch by herself.

According to WMBF, Barbara Foy went to get lunch by herself at the Ruby Tuesday near Surfside Beach after she didn't receive a call from her son on Mother's Day. She said he hasn't called her for some time.

When the staff realized Foy was eating alone, they pitched in to make her a Mother's Day gift basket filled with goodies.

Foy's lunch was also paid for, and a customer bought her a rose.

"I really felt like I was queen for a day, mother for a day!" Foy said. "I've never been made to feel so special."

Lauren Nave, the general manager of the Ruby Tuesday, said Foy touched the entire staff by her story.

It is also wonderful to see that the compassion and goodwill crossed racial boundaries.

That's because this happened in the REAL world where you will find the majority of people will tend to be nice and generous when given the chance. Put a phone in the hands of a person and meet them in a Cyber-Environment and the evil that lurks in the heart of all of us is soon emboldened, regardless of skin color.....The Internetz is simply the best worst thing ever.

Here’s a better idea: If you want to hear from your children, call them. Never wait for them to call. Don’t put other people in charge of your happiness.

I’m pretty sure God has commands for parents too.

They can go first.

Your pain shows. Actually, there are admonitions about parenting in Scripture, but no Commandment and no promise. God knows His ways are good for us.. We need to pay attention. Obedience, even when hard and with gritted teeth pleases Him.

DNA does not make a parent.

I owe them NOTHING.

They abandoned me when I was 2 and the social worker recorded that both parents walked away at the courthouse. I tried to follow. My mother stopped me with a finger to the forehead and said “stay”...Like I was a bad dog.

My father held a knife to my throat when I was 7 because he went AWOL from the army and my foster parents wouldn’t give him money.

I’m supposed to honor that?

If God is interested in their souls, He knows where they are.

I wish I still had my mom to celebrate Mothers Day with, she died in 1978 at only 53 years old....way, way too young.

My parents run a florist and one of my brothers was deliverying a mothers day vase of flowers to a little old lady in the nursing home and it is usually two persons to a room and he came back an commented on how the other little lady just looked at him pitiful when he passed by her to the other patient in the room.

He said I wish I had taken a carnation to give to her but didn’t think. Dad overhearing this said call up there to the nursing home and find out how many ladies they have in the nursing home and take them a carnation each and don’t you dare tell them it was from me or this shop, I want no publicity period.

No. You do not honor that. You condemn their actions! You do not attempt a trust or even a friendship relationship.

But, at a distance acknowledge their
biological parenthood, your duty to them and an offer of reasonable help not available to them and which are doable by you.

Honor, not Fawning nor foolishness.

Your story hurts me. Peace to you.

I’m not much of a Christian and there really was nothing to forgive. I learned early who my mother was and when I was in my early 30’s learned to take her meanness with a grain of salt. I just didn’t let her upset me anymore. I’d look at her and say.....whatever. Lol. My brother never learned to do that. He didn’t like her and let her get under his skin.

Well, whether you’re much of one or not that goes to the heart of the matter as far as Christian forgiveness. It’s not about them. It’s about you.

Indeed. The goodwill of these young women should be duly noted and appreciated.

Some people are just so toxic and crazy, cutting them off completely is the only way to go on with your life. People like that do nothing but destroy all those around them.

Yes, that’s true. In this case, she was estranged from her own elderly mother for the final 2+ years of her life. Her mother took her out of her will, and her siblings did not let her know when their mother died. If she had known, it was a certainty that, in her histrionic and narcissistic way, she would have disrupted the funeral and they would have been unable to lay their mother to rest. So sad.

Because it’s on my way to and from Florida and New England, I stop there overnights.

Ever since my first stop 20 years ago, I’ve noticed the same as you. Nice place. I should have retired there—if they’d have me!
